Part II: Muhammad and Women
The Prophet of Polygyny, Child Marriage, and Control
Forget the sanitized sermons and interfaith-friendly lectures. Strip away the PR gloss, and what do we find in the biography of Muhammad regarding women?
A man who claimed divine license for polygamy, consummated marriage with a prepubescent child, and institutionalized female submission as sacred law — all while branding it revelation.
If the Qur’an built the scaffold for patriarchy, Muhammad hammered in every nail.
👰 Polygyny: The Divine Double Standard
Qur’an 4:3
“Marry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four…”
For men, that is. Women get one husband — or hell.
But wait — even the four-wife limit had exceptions. And guess who got them?
Qur’an 33:50
“O Prophet, We have made lawful to you your wives... and any believing woman who offers herself to the Prophet... a privilege for you, not for the [other] believers.”
Read that again.
The Prophet of Islam had a personal exemption clause — a sexual privilege stamped with God's approval. An open-ended license for divine polygyny, exclusively tailored to Muhammad.
This isn’t spiritual. This is scripture as self-service.
🧒 Aisha: The Sacred Child Bride
It’s not speculation. It’s Sahih Bukhari — the most canonical hadith collection in Sunni Islam.
Sahih Bukhari 5133:
“The Prophet married me when I was six years old, and consummated the marriage when I was nine…”
This isn’t a fringe report. It's cited across Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood, and Ibn Majah — repeatedly, consistently.
And Muhammad was over 50.
Apologists perform Olympic-level contortions trying to "contextualize" this:
“She was mature for her age.”
“It was normal back then.”
“Her age is disputed.”
No. It’s in the most trusted hadiths. The age is not disputed by the earliest scholars. What’s disputed is how modern minds can defend it without vomiting their integrity.
🛏️ Concubines and Captives: Sexual Slavery by Example
Muhammad didn’t just marry. He took war captives as concubines — a practice ratified in both word and deed.
Sahih Muslim 3371:
“The Prophet took a woman as his share from the captives.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 254:
“The Prophet took a slave girl from the fifth (of war booty) and kept her for himself.”
Some of these women had just watched their families executed:
Safiyya bint Huyayy: Her father, husband, and brother were killed. That night, Muhammad “married” her.
Rayhana bint Zayd: Enslaved after the mass beheading of the men of Banu Qurayza.
Let’s be clear: If this were anyone but a religious figure, we’d call this rape and wartime sexual enslavement.
Instead, it’s praised in textbooks and sugar-coated in Sunday school.
⚖️ Wives as Obedient Property: Theology by Marriage Manual
Muhammad’s sermons to women weren’t empowerment seminars.
Sahih Bukhari 5196:
“If a woman dies while her husband is pleased with her, she will enter Paradise.”
Sunan Ibn Majah 1853:
“If I were to command anyone to prostrate to another, I would have commanded women to prostrate to their husbands.”
This isn’t marriage. It’s feudalism with divine backing.
Sahih Muslim 1436:
“When a man calls his wife to his bed and she refuses, and he spends the night angry with her, the angels curse her until morning.”
Even sex is sacred only if the man wants it. Her desire? Irrelevant. Her consent? Not even in the vocabulary.
🔨 Divine Jealousy and Legal Loopholes
When Muhammad wanted his adopted son’s wife, divine revelation came to the rescue.
Qur’an 33:37:
“We married her to you so that there may be no difficulty for the believers in [marrying] the wives of their adopted sons…”
Zaynab bint Jahsh went from daughter-in-law to wife — and it wasn’t scandal. It was scripture.
This isn’t morality. This is divine damage control.
And when his wives dared question him?
Qur’an 66:5:
“Perhaps his Lord, if he divorces you, will give him in exchange wives better than you…”
That’s not marriage. That’s emotional blackmail with the backing of God.
🤲 A Prophet for All Women... But Especially Himself
Between his teenage bride, slave concubines, polygamous entourage, and revelation-crafted privileges, Muhammad’s marriage record reads less like a prophet and more like a patriarchal opportunist with a hotline to heaven.
Every limitation on women’s freedom found in Islamic law traces back to either Muhammad’s:
Personal conduct,
Marital practices, or
“Revelations” that conveniently reinforced his behavior.
This is not the morality of a timeless prophet. It’s the desire-driven theology of a tribal patriarch with a divine megaphone.
🧨 Final Judgment: Muhammad Was the Template — and the Template Was Control
He didn’t just live in a patriarchal society. He canonized it.
He didn’t just participate in polygamy. He expanded it for himself.
He didn’t just exploit wartime spoils. He sexualized them and called it holy.
And through his personal behavior, Muhammad set the example that would become:
The justification for child marriage in Yemen,
The foundation for polygyny in Saudi Arabia,
The model for female obedience in Indonesia,
And the script for legal sexual slavery under ISIS.
This isn’t hate. This is the hadith.
⚠️ Disclaimer
This post critiques Islam as an ideology, doctrine, and historical system — not Muslims as individuals. Every human deserves dignity. Beliefs do not. Truth-telling is not hate. Silence is.
